Written Aptitude Test

Basic Programming Round

Candidates who clear the written test move to a practical coding session.

• Equipment: laptop provided at the venue; Turbo C compiler installed
• Language: C only (C++ and Java are not permitted in this round)
• Task: solve 5 programming problems in 75 minutes
• Topics: data structures, arrays, and string manipulation

The C-only restriction catches students who’ve practised primarily in Java or Python. If your fundamentals are in C, the language switch doesn’t cost you anything. If your last C programme was in your first year, it is worth spending time on arrays, linked lists, and string functions before the drive.

Speed matters in this round. Candidates who complete all five correctly advance most reliably; candidates who solve three fully and partially attempt two also progress. Spending 70 of 75 minutes on one problem while leaving four untouched is not a good trade.

Advanced Programming Round

This is the round where most eliminations happen.

• Task: design and build one complete system from scratch in 3 hours
• Languages permitted: C, C++, or Java (your choice)
• Problem type: full system-design scenarios such as a railway reservation system, mail server, library management tool, or inventory manager
• Evaluation: the reviewer reads the code; logic correctness, modularity, boundary-case handling, and variable naming all factor into the result, not only whether the programme runs

The key difference from competitive programming is that Zoho evaluates code quality, not just output. A solution that handles edge cases cleanly and organises logic into well-named functions scores higher than a solution that passes the basic case but reads as one long, tangled block. Technical Interview
