HCL TechBee is HCLTech’s twelve-month early career program for students who have cleared Class XII and want a full-time IT role before completing a traditional degree.

If you arrived here looking for an “HCL Chennai Training and Hiring Program for Experienced Candidates,” a correction is in order. The current program is called TechBee, it is open to 12th-pass students across India (not just Chennai), and it does not recruit experienced or degree-holding candidates. For BE/BTech fresher hiring, see HCL’s standard Software Engineer hiring drive. For the government-linked TNSLPP track, see the HCL TNSLPP fresher program.

What Is HCL TechBee?

TechBee is run by HCL Training and Staffing Services (HCL TSS), a subsidiary of HCLTech. The program launched in 2017 and was India’s first assured-job program for Class XII students entering the IT sector.

The structure is straightforward. Scholars go through 12 months of combined training before receiving a full-time offer. Two career tracks are available:

  • IT Services — roles in software engineering, infrastructure management, test engineering, design engineering, and service desk support.
  • Digital Process Support — roles in IT-enabled support operations.

The program now operates across India and internationally in Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, and the Americas. Cohorts have run in cities including Chennai, Noida, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Lucknow.

Eligibility — Who Can Apply

The primary requirement is a Class XII pass certificate. The 2026 intake accepts candidates who passed Class XII in 2025 or 2026.

Minimum qualifying marks vary by state board. For the IT Services track, Maths or Business Mathematics is mandatory with a minimum of 60% in that subject, per the official TechBee program page. Candidates who scored at or above the 80th percentile in IIT/JEE mains (2025 or 2026) are exempted from the HCL CAT and can proceed directly to the Versant test and interview.

All applicants must be Indian residents. The cut-off per state board is listed on the official TechBee program page linked above; a single national minimum does not apply.

Selection Process

TechBee selection has three stages, run in sequence:

  1. HCL CAT — a basic career aptitude test covering quantitative reasoning and logical reasoning. Candidates with IIT/JEE mains 80th-percentile scores (2025 or 2026) skip this stage.
  2. Face-to-face interview — a panel interaction with the HCLTech selection committee to assess technical aptitude and communication.
  3. Versant test — an AI-graded spoken-English assessment that checks language fluency and communication skills.

Clearing all three stages results in a training offer. The selection timeline varies by city and cohort cycle. Check the official TechBee registration portal for current batch dates.

How to Apply

Applications go through the TechBee registration portal at registrations.hcltechbee.com. The process:

  1. Register on the portal and verify that your state board and Class XII batch (2025 or 2026) meet the eligibility criteria.
  2. Fill in academic details and upload mark sheets.
  3. Receive a hall ticket for the HCL CAT once shortlisted.
  4. After clearing the CAT, the selection committee schedules the face-to-face interview and Versant test.
  5. Successful candidates receive a training offer with location details.

Batch cycles open periodically throughout the year. Registration itself is free. The program fee applies only to the IT Services track after the offer is accepted.

Preparing for the Selection Process

The three-stage selection is approachable with focused preparation.

HCL CAT: The aptitude test covers quantitative reasoning and logical reasoning. Standard topics include numerical series, ratio and proportion, time-and-work problems, and pattern-based logical reasoning. Any general aptitude mock-test platform covers this ground. The CAT format is not proprietary, so widely available practice material applies directly.

Versant: This is an AI-graded spoken-English test. It checks fluency, pronunciation, and listening comprehension through spoken responses to prompts. Practise reading English text aloud at a comfortable pace and answering short factual questions verbally. Two to three weeks of daily spoken-English practice is enough for most candidates who are comfortable in English.

Interview: The face-to-face round assesses communication skills and basic IT awareness. Prepare a clear, honest explanation of why you want to start your career in IT directly after Class XII. No deep technical knowledge is expected at this stage.

Training Structure, Fees, and Starting Salary

The 12-month program splits into two phases per the HCL TechBee program page:

Phase 1: Classroom Training (6 to 9 months)

Covers IT fundamentals, programming languages, industry tools, certifications, communication skills, and personal development. This phase is designed to take a Class XII student with no IT background to a working-level foundation.

Phase 2: On-the-Job Training (3 to 6 months)

Scholars work on live HCLTech projects. Successful completion leads to a full-time employment offer.

Key financial figures for the two tracks:

Program feeRs 1.40 lakhNot publicly listed
Monthly stipend (OJT phase)Rs 10,000Rs 10,000
Starting salary (full-time)Rs 2.50 LPARs 2.20 LPA

Loan assistance for the IT Services program fee is available through HCL. The stipend applies during the on-the-job training phase; during the classroom phase, check the offer letter for any applicable support.

Higher Education While Working

Once deployed full-time, TechBee scholars can enrol in work-integrated higher education through six partner institutions:

  • IIT Guwahati — BSc in Data Science and AI (4-year online program)
  • BITS Pilani — BSc via WILP (Work Integrated Learning Program)
  • IIM Sirmaur — management-linked degree pathway
  • IIIT Kottayam — technology-focused undergraduate program
  • SASTRA University — engineering undergraduate pathway
  • Amity University Online — BCA and related programs

All are e-learning curricula, structured so that a full-time HCLTech employee can complete coursework without taking leave. The IIT Guwahati pathway is the key one for AI: HCLTech officially partnered with IIT Guwahati to offer the 4-year online BSc in Data Science and AI specifically for employees who want to build an AI specialisation while working.

The AI Premium — What TechBee Scholars Should Know

The starting salary on conversion is listed in the table above. That is the entry point, not the ceiling.

In 2026, HCLTech announced packages of ₹18–22 LPA for elite AI-skilled freshers, the highest publicly disclosed AI hiring premium among Indian IT services companies at the entry level. Those roles require strong GenAI, data engineering, or cybersecurity portfolios.

A TechBee scholar who completes the IIT Guwahati BSc in Data Science and AI while working, and builds real AI projects on GitHub, has a verifiable path to that upgrade band within HCLTech or in the wider job market. The IIT Guwahati BSc is not a shortcut; it is a 4-year commitment. But it is exactly the kind of credential-plus-experience combination that moves someone from the entry salary band toward the AI-skilled hiring pool.

If you are building AI skills while working, the AI roadmap for Indian engineering students has a curriculum sequence that fits around a working schedule. TinkerLLM at ₹299 covers the LLM fundamentals that the IIT Guwahati Data Science curriculum builds on. That is the low-friction entry point before the coursework begins.
