Infosys Interview Guide for Freshers: 2026 Edition
Three-stage selection, three tracks (₹3.6 LPA to ₹9.5 LPA), and how AI-attuned skills now change Infosys's packages: the complete 2026 fresher interview guide.
Infosys interviews in 2026 follow a three-stage selection: online aptitude test, technical interview, and HR round. Which track you target (SE, SP, or PP) shapes both the prep intensity and the starting package you walk away with.
The three Infosys tracks
Before building a prep plan, decide which track you are aiming for. The three tracks differ on CTC, eligibility, and how demanding the online test and technical round get.
| Track | CTC | Key selection criteria |
|---|---|---|
| System Engineer (SE) | ₹3.6 LPA | Online aptitude test, technical interview, HR interview |
| Specialist Programmer (SP) | ₹6.5 LPA | Stronger coding section, DSA-focused technical interview; InfyTQ certification holders preferred |
| Power Programmer (PP) | ₹9.5 LPA | Top InfyTQ or HackWithInfy performance; typically 7.5+ CGPA |
SE is the bulk fresher pipeline and where most campus hiring happens. SP doubles the SE package, with InfyTQ certification being the most visible differentiator between SE and SP candidates. PP is a small cohort selected from top performers across HackWithInfy and InfyTQ’s advanced tiers.
The decision to target SE versus SP is practical. If you have eight to ten extra weeks and you’re comfortable with data structures at the level of trees, graphs, and dynamic programming, SP is worth the effort. Students with a strong competitive programming record and a CGPA of 7.5 or above can realistically aim for PP. Without those credentials, prep for SE and treat SP as a stretch goal.
The Infosys online aptitude test
The online test covers three sections: quantitative ability, logical reasoning, and verbal ability. The SP track adds a coding section on top of these three. Questions test the same concepts that appear on most campus placement tests, so aptitude preparation transfers across companies.
For the quantitative section, concentrate on number series, percentages, ratios, time and work, and data interpretation. Past Infosys tests repeat a recognisable pattern across these topics. The Infosys aptitude test questions and solutions on FACE Prep cover past patterns by topic with worked answers.
The logical reasoning section typically includes syllogisms, coding-decoding, seating arrangements, and blood relations. The Infosys logical reasoning question archive is a useful source of topic-wise practice sets. For verbal ability, reading comprehension passages and sentence correction questions make up most of the section. Accuracy matters more than speed here: read the passage once, note the main idea, and answer from the text rather than from inference.
For full-length timed practice under realistic conditions, the Infosys placement papers with solutions replicate the test format. Aim for at least three full mock tests before the actual test date, not just topic-wise drilling.
A practical prep split for SE: three weeks of quantitative and logical reasoning, one week of verbal, two weeks of mock tests. For SP, add two to three weeks of DSA fundamentals before the mock phase.
The technical interview
CSE and IT branches
Technical interviews for CSE and IT candidates cover four areas: object-oriented programming, database management, networking, and data structures and algorithms. Interviewers ask about concepts first, then follow up with a coding question. Have your fundamentals in order before drilling LeetCode problems.
Common questions:
- OOPs: Explain polymorphism with an example. What is the difference between method overloading and method overriding? When would you use an abstract class versus an interface?
- DBMS: What is normalisation? Explain the difference between CHAR and VARCHAR. What are ACID properties? What is the difference between a primary key and a unique key?
- Networking: Explain the difference between TCP and UDP. What is the OSI model? What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
- DSA: Write a program to check if a number is prime. Explain the time complexity of binary search. What is the difference between a stack and a queue? Reverse a linked list.
- SDLC: Walk through the phases of the Software Development Life Cycle. What is Agile?
For SP and PP tracks, DSA questions go further: linked list manipulation, tree traversals, dynamic programming basics, and graph BFS or DFS. Know the time and space complexity of every algorithm you discuss.
Every interviewer will ask about your most recent project. Prepare a clear two-minute explanation: problem statement, your role, tools used, what you would do differently. If the project involved data processing, automation, or system design, expect follow-up questions on those specifics.
ECE and EEE branches
Technical questions for ECE and EEE candidates combine programming basics with electronics and communications concepts.
Common questions:
- C programming: What is a pointer and what is its use? Differentiate between C and Embedded C. Write a program to check if a number is a perfect number.
- Digital electronics: Draw a circuit for a low-pass filter and explain its significance. What is a Zener diode and what are its applications? Explain the difference between combinational and sequential circuits.
- Communications: List the major modulation techniques. Explain the difference between AM and FM modulation.
- Networking: Explain TCP vs. UDP. What is the OSI model?
For ECE candidates applying to the SE track, the expected DSA depth is lower than for CSE, but you still need to write basic C programs in the interview. Practise array manipulation, string problems, and recursive functions at minimum.
The HR interview
The HR round assesses communication, cultural fit, and self-awareness. It typically runs 20 to 30 minutes, often on the same day as the technical round.
Common questions:
- Why do you want to join Infosys?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
- How do you handle pressure or a difficult deadline?
- Tell me about a time you worked in a team and faced a conflict.
- How would you contribute to Infosys’s culture?
Honest, specific answers work better than prepared scripts. If your weakness is overthinking complex problems, say so, then describe a project where you caught it early and adjusted. Vague answers read as evasive. Where you see yourself in five years should be grounded in what Infosys actually does: technology services, consulting, product engineering. Naming a specific domain within that context lands better than a generic “leadership” goal.
If English is not your first language and your spoken fluency needs work, give it two focused weeks before the interview, not two days. Clarity matters more than accent.
What Infosys is looking for in 2026
The shift in Infosys’s hiring posture is documented and direct. In Q4 FY26 earnings commentary, CEO Salil Parekh confirmed that Infosys offers different starting compensation for candidates with skills attuned to AI, and is building a pool of forward-deployed engineers to deliver AI solutions directly with clients. The company onboarded 20,000 freshers in FY26 and plans to reach the same number in FY27.
That means InfyTQ is no longer just a shortcut to the SP track. It is a visible signal of an AI-attuned skill set that Infosys’s compensation structure now explicitly rewards. Candidates who can demonstrate AI tool knowledge through real projects are better placed for SP and PP than those who only prepare for the aptitude test. Aptitude-only prep no longer covers the full hiring picture.
The 2026 AI roadmap for Indian engineering students maps which AI skills carry the most weight in Indian placements. It is worth reading alongside your placement prep schedule.
The SP track’s ₹6.5 LPA reflects candidates who demonstrate working knowledge, not just textbook recall. TinkerLLM at ₹499 is one fast path. It is built around small, deployable AI projects you can discuss in a technical interview.
